Why this pillar exists

This pillar exists to ensure that AI rules have real consequences and that people have real remedies when AI systems cause harm. Principles and voluntary commitments are not enough. Accountability requires clear responsibilities across the AI supply chain, enforceable standards, independent audits where appropriate, incident reporting, and avenues for complaints, investigation, and penalties. When harms occur, affected individuals should have meaningful options for redress, including correction, compensation, and oversight that prevents repeat failures.
