Dave F replied to my comment about chapter 3. he thinks hitlers germany confirms identity, nationalism, and technology is the answer to the question. How can I give a respectful reply? ========================== Share TB Bryan Author 2d · Fremont Hey Karl, Chapter 3 is up: https://www.american-pride.net/naked-communist-reading-log#ch3 Ch 3 — The Communist Approach to the Solution of World Problems Skousen shows the sharp break Marx and Engels made with Judeo-Christian and liberal traditions. Instead of improving human character to improve society, they argued that changing economic structures would reshape humanity. Religion, morals, and law were reframed as class weapons rather than universal truths. Cold War readers in the 1950s would have seen these ideas as the foundation for militant atheism, revolutionary violence, and Soviet policy. The promise that the state would “wither away” stood in stark contrast to the reality of an ever-expanding Soviet regime. Seven draft questions are posted with the chapter. One that stands out is: “2025 Reflection: Today, does economic determinism — e.g., the clash between those who own the means of production and those who do not — still explain political and cultural conflict? Or do identity, nationalism, and technology shape society in ways that Marx and Engels could not foresee?” These questions are just a starting point. Happy to add others if the group wants to explore different angles — just post them here. Reply Share 1 David Fallon 2d · Emerald Hills Identity, nationalism, and technology win out.
