Acoustic Test Conditions

IIC 50 is a conservative baseline, not the product's ceiling. That rating was measured with porcelain tile on a 6″ concrete slab with no suspended ceiling — the harshest test assembly. Tile is acoustically unforgiving, and the absence of a ceiling removes a significant source of additional damping.

The ΔIIC of 22 dB is the more portable number: it represents how much improvement the mat adds over any bare slab, regardless of the flooring or ceiling assembly. A typical bare concrete slab tests around IIC 28–32; adding 22 dB yields approximately IIC 50–54 — consistent with the lab result.

The HIIC ≥ 62 value — measured with luxury vinyl plank on an 8″ concrete slab — is the more relevant comparison for a resilient flooring installation and clears the HOA's FIIC 62 threshold for new flooring. The May 18 field retest will determine the actual FIIC in Continental House's slab assembly.

Context

This product is being evaluated as a candidate underlayment for Unit 606 at Continental House Condominium. The HOA requires a minimum FIIC 62 for new flooring installations and FIIC 55 for replacement installations. Lab IIC ratings do not directly equal field FIIC ratings — field values are typically lower. GenieMat® RST05 is scheduled for field retesting on May 18, 2026.
