Pillar 2: Classification of AI Systems

Why this pillar exists

This pillar exists to define risk-based system classes so rules are proportional to potential harm. Not every AI system should face the same requirements. A clear classification scheme (for example: general, elevated, critical, and sensitive) helps policymakers target obligations such as testing, documentation, disclosure, monitoring, and enforcement where they matter most. It also helps the public understand which systems warrant special caution and oversight.
